Sarah Hummasti, AOIC’s Vice President of Scientific Strategy and Services, is known for her excellent ability to translate complicated scientific data into content that is both accurate and easy to understand. She began her nearly 10-year career with AOIC as a Senior Medical Writer and now oversees the team. Sarah and her team work collaboratively internally as well as with clients and authors to ensure every deliverable is produced with precision, quality, and strategic insight.
When asked to describe a typical day, Sarah laughed and explained, “There’s really no such thing as typical.” Her days are a dynamic mix of external and internal calls, managing timelines, balancing workloads, reviewing content, and evaluating deliverables. “There are always a lot of moving pieces,” she says. “My focus is on keeping everything organized and making sure the team has what they need to succeed.” She also spends time planning, anticipating the right publication strategies, and identifying gaps in the literature to ensure client success.
Sarah’s proudest professional moments are not necessarily one specific thing; instead, it comes from seeing the team’s collective work come to life. An example of this shows itself during abstract submissions for the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meetings. She describes, “Watching everything come together, the coordination, the collaboration, the final product getting great feedback, is so rewarding.” It’s not one specific project that stands out, but the process of teamwork that drives her pride.
When it comes to company culture, Sarah immediately nods to the people: “We have a really good group. Everyone is willing to help each other.” It is the sense of connection and shared purpose that she values most. Her success is built on organization and communication, keeping systems in place to track short- and long-term goals while ensuring clarity across every project.
Outside of work, Sarah loves spending time outdoors, whether that’s going to the beach, hiking, or reading a good book. And here’s a fun surprise: Sarah is a twin!
When asked about the best advice she’s ever received, she quoted her mom: “Appreciate what you have, count every blessing.” It’s a simple reminder that perfectly captures Sarah’s outlook, work ethic, and personality.
